Veterans Memorial team advances in Lego tournament

Video produced by Justin OdendhalTeam AMSA members Xavien Phillips and Landon Gentile from Veterans Memorial School watch as their robot moves through the obstacle course during the FIRST Lego League Tournament at Vineland High School South on Saturday.(Photo: Jodi Streahle)VINELAND – Team AMSA (Applied Math and Science Academy) from Veterans Memorial Intermediate School is advancing to the FIRST Lego League Southern New Jersey Championship.They competed against six other teams during the FIRST Lego League regional tournament on Saturday, where the Lucky Bananas, a group of students from the Marlton and Voorhees area, took home the championship award and also will advance.Students logged countless hours as they prepared for the hydrodynamic challenge over the past three months. The tournament, held at Vineland High School South, included three parts: the robot game, the project and the core calues. Students built autonomous robots that completed a hydrodynamic-themed obstacle course during the robot game, and each team practiced and exemplified the core values during the entire process.
